Konkan Railway’s Ro-RO Service: Send Your Car to Goa Hassle-Free by Train

Konkan Railway’s new Roll-On Roll-Off (Ro-RO) service lets car owners skip the long drive, transporting vehicles from Kolad to Verna while offering passenger travel options. This innovative solution promises convenience and safety for Goa-bound travelers along the scenic Konkan route.

Pune | 28 July, 2025: Imagine hitting the road to Goa without the stress of driving through winding, monsoon-soaked routes. Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has launched an exciting Roll-On Roll-Off (Ro-RO) service, allowing car owners to send their vehicles from Kolad, Maharashtra, to Verna, Goa, via train. Starting August 23, 2025, this service offers a seamless, eco-friendly way to travel, blending convenience with the charm of train journeys along the picturesque Konkan coast.

The Ro-RO service operates daily on alternate dates until September 11, 2025, with departures from Kolad and Verna at 5:00 PM, arriving by 5:00 AM the next day. Each train can carry up to 40 cars, with a minimum of 16 required to confirm a trip. The cost is ₹7,875 per car, including GST, with ₹4,000 paid during registration and the balance at the station. Booking opened on July 21, 2025, and runs through August 13, 2025, via UPI, cash, or card, requiring documents like Aadhaar, PAN, car registration, and insurance.

For travelers, the service includes a 3AC coach for two passengers per car at ₹935 each, or an SLR coach for one additional person at ₹190. This makes it a family-friendly option, allowing up to three passengers per car to travel comfortably while their vehicle is securely transported. Cars must be locked, secured with lashing belts, and free of loose or flammable items, ensuring safety on the electrified 25 kV OHE route. KRCL provides loading assistance but advises customers to arrive three hours early and sign an indemnity form, as they bear no liability for damage or theft.

This service is a game-changer for frequent travelers, tourists, and families planning Goa getaways, eliminating the fatigue of long drives while keeping cars accessible upon arrival. It also reflects KRCL’s commitment to innovative, sustainable transport solutions. However, the service’s success depends on community uptake, as trips require sufficient bookings to operate. Residents of Mumbai, Pune, and nearby areas are already buzzing with excitement, eager to try this novel way to reach Goa’s beaches.

For more details or to book, contact KRCL’s Chief Commercial Manager in Navi Mumbai at 90044 70973 or Verna Railway Station at 96866 56160, or visit www.konkanrailway.com. This Ro-RO service is set to redefine travel convenience, making Goa trips smoother and more enjoyable.
