After four years, Konkan locals rejoice as the Diva–Sawantwadi train resumes halts at Kolad and Anjani stations, restoring critical transport links ahead of Ganeshotsav. Railways respond to consistent public demand.
Ratnagiri | July 27, 2025: The deep emotional and cultural bond between Ganeshotsav and Konkan has once again been honored—thanks to a major decision by the Indian Railways. After years of persistent demands from locals, the Diva–Sawantwadi–Diva train will resume halts at Kolad and Anjani stations starting Monday, July 28.
Both these stops were discontinued during the COVID-19 lockdown period, causing immense hardship to nearby villages. Students, daily wage workers, senior citizens, and farmers from these areas heavily depend on these halts for travel and transporting agricultural produce. Their absence for nearly four years had cut off a crucial transport link.
The residents, however, continued to raise their voices through delegations, protests, and appeals. With Ganeshotsav nearing—a festival that compels countless Konkanites from Mumbai and elsewhere to return to their native villages—the pressure on the railway administration increased.
Responding to these repeated appeals, authorities have now reinstated the train’s stop at both Kolad and Anjani, bringing immense relief to the local population. The decision has been met with celebrations and gratitude from villagers, social organizations, students, and traders who view the move as not just a convenience, but a restoration of their right to accessible travel.
“Kolad and Anjani are not mere stations—they are lifelines,” said one resident, emphasizing that many villages still lack continuous ST bus service, making the train a vital necessity.
