Install HSRP by August 15, 2025, or pay ₹10,000 fine. No more deadline extensions. Online registration and authorized fitment are mandatory. Delays won’t be excused post-deadline, warns Transport Department.
Mumbai | August 4, 2025: The Transport Department has issued a final warning to vehicle owners: High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) must be installed on all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, by August 15, 2025. No further extension will be granted, and failure to comply will attract a direct penalty of ₹10,000.
This is the third and final deadline, previously extended from April 30 to June 30, and now till mid-August. Authorities cited several challenges for the repeated extensions: limited availability of plates for crores of vehicles, delays in online bookings, crowding at fitment centers, and hurdles for rural citizens.
Despite these challenges, the Transport Department has now clarified that action will be taken against defaulters after the deadline. However, owners who register and secure an appointment before August 15 will be exempt from penalties—even if the fitment date falls later.
Vehicle owners are urged to visit the official portal of the Transport Department, apply online, and get their number plates fixed at authorized centers. The Vayuveg enforcement teams will begin imposing fines immediately after the deadline.
