Parents in Sonari village locked their ZP school after waiting four years for teachers in Classes 9–10. Despite protests, no qualified staff arrived. The school remains closed until permanent teachers are appointed.

Dharashiv | July 10 ,2025 : In a powerful expression of frustration and helplessness, angry parents in Sonari village of Dharashiv district have taken the extreme step of locking the local Zilla Parishad school, citing a lack of basic teaching staff for crucial subjects in Classes 9 and 10.
The school, which operates up to Class 10, has not had regular science and mathematics teachers for the past four years. This ongoing neglect has forced parents to step in, raising serious questions about the state’s commitment to rural education and Marathi-medium schools.
Parents Rise, Department Sleeps
While the Education Department remained indifferent, the villagers watched their children’s formative academic years slip away. “It’s not just about marks, it’s about the children’s future,” said one frustrated parent. With repeated pleas and complaints falling on deaf ears, parents decided to take matters into their own hands — and locked the school.
A Shocking Twist
In a knee-jerk response to the protest, the department hurriedly sent a teacher to the school. But instead of relief, this move brought more embarrassment. The newly appointed teacher refused to teach Classes 9 and 10, citing inexperience or lack of subject expertise. This only added fuel to the fire, as villagers demanded the presence of qualified and committed teaching staff.
Parents Take a Firm Stand
Now, villagers have announced they will not unlock the school until regular, subject-specific teachers are appointed. “If the system cannot provide teachers, how can we trust it with our children’s future?” asked a local activist.
Marathi Schools in Crisis
This incident is a stark reminder of why many parents are losing faith in Marathi-medium and ZP schools, despite their desire to support them. While teachers agitate for their rights, rural students are being deprived of even basic classroom instruction, particularly in core subjects that determine career paths.
This education gap is not just hurting rural aspirations — it’s eroding trust in the government system itself.
