Maharashtra faces rough seas and heavy rainfall alerts. High waves up to 4.3m expected along the coast; floods reported in Hingoli and Parbhani. Rescue operations underway, citizens urged to stay alert.

Mumbai | July 23, 2025: The intensity of the monsoon has surged across Maharashtra, prompting the Meteorological Department and State Emergency Management Center to issue urgent warnings for both coastal and ghat regions. From 5:30 PM on July 23 to 8:30 PM on July 24, sea waves up to 4.3 meters are expected along the coasts of Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, while Palghar and Raigad may see waves up to 3.8 meters, according to the Indian National Ocean Information Service Center.

In light of this, strict advisories have been issued banning the entry of small boats and fishing vessels into the sea.

Simultaneously, a warning of heavy rainfall has been issued for parts of Konkan and western Maharashtra. An Orange Alert has been sounded for the next 24 hours in the Ghats of Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and Satara, with National and State Disaster Response Forces on standby.

Heavy rainfall has already triggered localized flooding in multiple regions:

  • In Hadgaon Nakhate village (Pathri taluka, Parbhani district), 117.8 mm rainfall caused flooding, trapping 7 to 8 residents on rooftops, who were safely rescued by disaster response teams.
  • In Barada village (Sengaon taluka, Hingoli district), three citizens stranded in a temple surrounded by floodwaters were evacuated with the help of the local administration.

Authorities have confirmed that the situation is under control as of now but have urged citizens to remain vigilant.

With unstable weather expected to persist across Maharashtra in the coming days, people—particularly in coastal and ghat areas—have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official advisories closely.
