Delayed monsoon is set to return to Maharashtra from June 12, peaking by June 14. IMD issues orange alert across several districts amid forecast of intense rain, storms, and flood warnings.
Mumbai | June 12, 2025: The rains seem to have caught everyone by surprise this year. From farmers to housewives, the unusual delay in the monsoon has left people confused and worried. Even the Meteorological Department was left misled by the unpredictable weather, leading to significant concern about a potential water shortage during this crucial season.
But there’s a ray of hope now. After what felt like a long vacation, the monsoon is expected to return to Maharashtra in full swing. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rains will begin to reappear across the state starting June 12, and the monsoon is predicted to re-activate strongly by June 14, especially in Mumbai and surrounding areas.

The forecast indicates strong winds, thunder, and lightning across parts of the state until June 17. Heavy rainfall is expected in regions including Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. Yesterday’s gusty winds uprooted trees and caused significant damage in multiple cities, foreshadowing the intensity of what’s to come.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for districts including Akol, Amravati, Nagpur, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Sangli, and Kolhapur. Meanwhile, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, and other areas in Vidarbha are also on high alert.
Experts have forecast 108% rainfall in June, with the next three weeks expected to bring intense showers, overflowing rivers and streams, and potentially flood-like situations in parts of the state. As Maharashtra readies for nature’s dramatic return, citizens are urged to stay alert and prepared.
