MahaRERA Transparent Operations Benefit Both Consumers and Developers — Gautam Chatterjee
At a Pune seminar, Gautam Chatterjee emphasized MahaRERA’s role in protecting the interests of consumers and developers. Prakash Sable approved “Open House Training” for the city.
Pune: “MahaRERA is a regulatory body that consistently strives to bring transparency to transactions in the real estate sector, while protecting the interests of both consumers and developers. Continuous modifications and streamlining of regulations are made after careful consideration from all stakeholders. This contributes to the growth of the sector and the redevelopment of old buildings.” This view was expressed by Gautam Chatterjee, former Chairman of Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) and founder of Grihamoni Redevelopment Stakeholders’ Federation. Chatterjee further stated that developers should change their perspective towards MahaRERA.

The Builders Association of India (BAI) Pune Center organized a seminar titled “Development of Construction Sector and Self-redevelopment” at Vishnukrupa Hall in Shukrawar Peth. The event was attended by MahaRERA Secretary Prakash Sable, Grievance Redressal Director Sudhakar Deshmukh, BAI Maharashtra President Jagannath Jadhav, Secretary C. H. Ratlani, Treasurer Mahesh Rathi, Anand Gupta, Pune Center President Ajay Gujar, Vice President Rajaram Hazare, and the coordinator of the seminar and Chairperson of BAI Maharashtra Housing and RERA Committee, Arch. Jyoti Chougule.
More than 400 people, including builders, developers, engineers, MEP consultants, government contractors, housing society representatives, and tax advisors, registered their participation. The BAI demanded initiation of “Open House Training” and other measures from Sable. Sable approved the proposal and announced the launch of “Open House Training.”
While speaking on the process of self-redevelopment and the role of Maharashtra Housing Redevelopment Partners’ Association, Gautam Chatterjee said, “Redevelopment of old buildings is a need of the hour, and large-scale redevelopment projects are underway in Pune following Mumbai. Housing societies are encouraged to come together to pursue redevelopment. Transparency, trust, and timelines are extremely important during redevelopment. To complete a project successfully, understanding and coordination between homeowners and developers is essential. Developers should follow MahaRERA’s regulations to avoid penalties for violations.”
Prakash Sable said, “MahaRERA’s role is to regulate the sector in order to protect homebuyers from fraud and to help them get possession of their homes on time. MahaRERA is not a sanctioning authority for projects. Developers must follow MahaRERA’s regulations and provide complete information about their projects. The portal is being made more user-friendly to resolve difficulties faced during registration. To address these issues, ‘Open House Training’ will now be held in Pune, following Mumbai and Nagpur. MahaRERA has registered 150,000 projects across the country, of which 50,000 are in Maharashtra, and 12,780 are in Pune alone. There is a strong response from Pune’s developers.”
Sudhakar Deshmukh provided crucial updates on QPR compliance, project expansion, revision, expiration, and stayed cases. He said, “MahaRERA is constantly taking initiatives to resolve complaints. However, sometimes incomplete or incorrect information is provided by the developer. If this is not rectified after prompting, penalties are imposed. Cooperation from consumer representatives is also expected. The aim is not just to resolve complaints but to find permanent solutions.”
Arch. Jyoti Chougule, Chairperson of BAI Maharashtra Housing Committee, engaged in a frank dialogue with Chatterjee, Sable, and Deshmukh. She stated, “Developers need to change their view of MahaRERA’s operations. Establishing a relationship of understanding and trust between developers and regulators is the need of the hour.”
The Builders Association of India honored MahaRERA Chairman Manoj Saunik for his remarkable contribution and for expediting court cases and delivering justice to consumers. Prakash Sable accepted the award on Saunik’s behalf.
