Major Blow to Naxal Network in Chhattisgarh: 13 Maoists Surrender in Bijapur, Cumulative Bounty of ₹23 Lakh

Chhattisgarh

13 wanted Naxalites surrendered in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, following intensified operations and outreach efforts. With a bounty of ₹23 lakh, their surrender signals growing cracks in the Maoist network.

Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), June 28: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing anti-Naxal operations, 13 Naxalites with a combined reward of ₹23 lakh on their heads surrendered before the police in Bijapur district. This development is being hailed as a major success for the security forces and the state’s proactive rehabilitation policy.

The surrendered Maoists were reportedly associated with different strategic wings of the CPI (Maoist), including Company No. 2 under the West Bastar division, the ACM, KAMS president, LOS members of the Dhamtari-Gariaband-Nuapada division, and members of PLGA, militia platoons, and AOB division.

According to officials, the surrender took place late Friday evening. The move is being seen as the outcome of sustained anti-Naxal operations and strategic measures taken by the Chhattisgarh police.

SP Jitendra Yadav, commenting on the development, said that the government’s initiative to set up new security camps in remote and dense forest areas has begun to bear fruit. These camps have facilitated development works, including road expansion, better transportation, electricity, water supply, and other basic infrastructure reaching previously cut-off tribal regions.

He also credited the community policing initiatives, regular engagement with villagers, and the extensive promotion of the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy for eroding the trust of locals and foot soldiers in the Maoist movement.

“These 13 surrenders are a result of growing disillusionment with the Maoist ideology and renewed faith in democratic processes and development,” he added.

The police believe this will encourage more Naxalites to give up arms and reintegrate into the mainstream under the Chhattisgarh government’s surrender scheme, which offers financial and social rehabilitation for those willing to leave the path of violence.
