Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has raised hopes of a great comeback when he advanced to the Malaysia Masters 2025 quarterfinals. In a fiercely contested second-round match in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, May 22, Srikanth outplayed Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen winning 23-21, 21-17 in 59 minutes.Once among the world’s top 10, Srikanth has slipped to World No. 65 due to a prolonged lean phase. However, Thursday’s victory was a much-needed confidence boost for the seasoned player as he now prepares to face France’s Toma Junior Popov in the last-eight stage.
Interestingly, Popov booked his place in the quarters by defeating another Indian, Ayush Shetty, 21-13, 21-17. Meanwhile, Sathish Karunakaran also bowed out of the tournament after losing to Christo Popov, Toma’s brother and doubles partner.
Mixed Doubles: Tanisha-Dhruv Duo Shines
In the mixed doubles draw, the Indian pair of Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila delivered a gritty performance to secure their spot in the quarterfinals. They triumphed over France’s Lea Palermo and Julien Maio 21-17, 18-21, 21-15 in a thrilling three-game contest.

Their next challenge is a tough one, as they’ll go head-to-head against the Chinese duo of Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin, known for their fierce on-court chemistry.
As Indian shuttlers battle it out in Malaysia, all eyes will be on Srikanth as he looks to reclaim his lost form and make a deep run in the tournament.
