A youth in Vashi was beaten with a hockey stick for speaking Marathi. Accused Faizan Naik and others attacked him. MNS warns against migrant bullying amid growing language tensions.
Mumbai | July 24, 2025: In yet another alarming incident tied to the ongoing Marathi-Hindi language controversy, a 20-year-old youth from Pawne village (Airoli) was brutally assaulted outside a college in Vashi on July 22, 2025. The assault occurred around 10:30 AM when the victim was allegedly attacked for speaking in Marathi.
According to the FIR registered at Vashi Police Station, the accused Faizan Naik, along with three others, objected to the victim speaking Marathi. The verbal spat quickly escalated into violence, with Faizan reportedly striking the youth on the head with a hockey stick, leaving him severely injured. The gang also kicked, punched, and issued death threats before fleeing the scene.
The blood-soaked victim was later helped by bystanders and rushed to a nearby hospital. Police have registered a case under serious sections and issued a notice to the main accused. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has intervened, demanding strict action and warning that such bullying in Navi Mumbai will not be tolerated.
This follows another recent incident in Mumbai where a hospital receptionist was beaten up by a migrant, further fueling the Marathi identity debate. In Delhi, BJP MP Dubey’s remarks on Marathi were also fiercely opposed by female MPs in the Parliament lobby, highlighting the growing tension nationwide.
