Water storage in Marathwada’s major dams has nearly doubled from last year due to early heavy rains. This surge ensures drinking water security and supports Kharif and Rabi farming in the region

Marathwada, June 30, 2025: Thanks to unseasonal and heavy rainfall in May, Marathwada region is witnessing a significant rise in water storage across its 11 major dams—a development bringing much-needed relief for farmers and residents alike.

As per latest data, overall water storage in these key reservoirs has reached 23.52%, almost double last year’s level of 12.92% on the same date. This improvement is being hailed as a positive sign for both Kharif and Rabi crop cultivation, and drinking water availability in the region, which has often faced acute water shortages in summer.

Dam-Wise Water Storage Comparison (This Year vs Last Year):

  • Jayakwadi: 43.08% (↑ from 4.54%)
  • Lower Dudhana: 35.52% (↑ from 0.81%)
  • Yeldari: 50.75% (↑ from 27.43%)
  • Siddheshwar: 21.56% (↑ from 0%)
  • Majalgaon: 11.54% (↑ from 0%)
  • Manjara: 27.59% (↑ from 0%)
  • Penganga: 51.69% (↑ from 28.57%)
  • Manar: 52.56% (↑ from 22.22%)
  • Lower Terna: 70.17% (↑ from 14%)
  • Sina Kolegaon: 48.09% (↑ from 0%)
  • Vishnupuri: 23.22% (↓ from 30.34%)

Except for Vishnupuri, which saw a marginal dip, all other dams have shown significant increases in storage, with some like Lower Terna and Manar crossing 50% capacity. This is raising hopes that many of these reservoirs could reach full capacity by July, assuming normal rainfall continues during the monsoon.

The improved water levels are expected to ease irrigation demands, support summer cropping, and address water scarcity in villages that often rely on tanker supply.
