Gokhale Institute replaces VC after NAAC rating drops to 'B'—sparking leadership controversy!
Pune, India – The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics has removed Sanjiv Sanyal from the post of Vice Chancellor following the institute’s NAAC rating drop to ‘B’ grade. The Servants of India Society, which governs the institute, has appointed ex-Justice S.C. Dharmadhikari as the new VC.
As per sources, the key reason for the ousting of Sanjeev Sanyal has been the B grade rating by NAAC.
The decision came after the governing body expressed dissatisfaction with Sanyal’s leadership, particularly regarding the decline in NAAC accreditation. Damodar Sahu, Chairman of the Servants of India Society, stated that no adequate steps were taken to improve the institute’s standing, leading to the change in leadership.
Controversy Over New Appointment
However, the appointment of Dharmadhikari has faced objections from Interim Vice Chancellor Shankar Das, who claims the selection process may not align with UGC regulations. In a letter addressed to Sahu, Das raised concerns over the procedure followed in appointing the new VC.
Sahu, in response, clarified that no prior complaints were received regarding Sanyal’s performance before the decision was made. He emphasized that the move was necessary to safeguard the institute’s academic reputation.
Future of Gokhale Institute
The Gokhale Institute, a century-old bastion of academic excellence, now stands at a crossroads. With its reputation under scrutiny, all eyes are on whether the new leadership can restore its glory—or if internal strife will deepen the crisis.
Will Justice Dharmadhikari steer the institute back to its ‘A’-grade legacy? Or will the controversy derail its revival?
