Nashik constable Swapnil Gaikwad killed his six-year-old daughter before dying by suicide, reportedly due to mental stress post-divorce. The incident shocked the community; police investigation is underway.
Nashik | June 25, 2025 – A deeply disturbing incident from Jail Road in Nashik has left the city in shock. A police constable, reportedly battling mental stress, allegedly killed his six-year-old daughter before taking his own life.
The heartbreaking incident took place on Tuesday evening (June 24) in Yogmala Apartment, located in Model Colony. The deceased constable has been identified as Swapnil Gaikwad, 36, who was serving at the Suburban Police Station.
According to police sources, Swapnil Gaikwad first hanged his daughter Bhairavi (age 6) using a nylon rope, and then ended his own life by tying the rope to a ceiling fan.
Neighbors discovered the horrifying scene and immediately alerted the authorities. Senior officers including Inspector Jitendra Sapkale (Nashik Road Police Station) and Inspector Jayant Shirsath (Upnagar Police Station) rushed to the spot for investigation.
Initial reports suggest that Swapnil had divorced his wife last year, and was allegedly going through severe emotional turmoil following the separation. Though exact reasons behind this tragic decision are still being investigated, police officials believe mental stress played a key role.
The Nashik Road Police have registered a case and are conducting a detailed probe, including statements from family members and colleagues to understand what led to this tragic event.
This case once again raises urgent concerns over the mental health of police personnel, who often remain under extreme stress due to professional and personal pressures. The department has expressed deep sorrow and is considering whether any support or counselling was offered earlier.
