Nashik |July 24, 2025: A 24-year-old youth, Sameer Mohan Date, tragically lost his life in a horrific road accident on Swatantryaveer Savarkar flyover late Tuesday night. The accident occurred when Sameer, while riding his bike, attempted to avoid potholes and lost control, falling directly in the path of an oncoming container truck.
The incident happened between 12:30 AM and 1:00 AM, as Sameer was heading home from Dattamandir Chowk toward Sinnar Phata. In a split second, while maneuvering around a pothole on the poorly maintained flyover, his bike skidded, causing him to fall onto the highway.
Before he could recover, a heavy container (HR 45 E 4190) coming from behind ran over his head. Sameer died on the spot, leaving his parents devastated. He was unmarried and operated a paan stall on Eklahare Road, being the sole breadwinner for his family.
The Nashik Road Police have registered an accidental death report and taken the container and its driver into custody for further investigation.
This tragic incident has ignited public outrage, with locals blaming the municipal authorities for the poor condition of roads and persistent potholes that continue to claim lives. Citizens demanded immediate action, asserting that such fatal accidents reflect a criminal negligence of basic infrastructure maintenance.
Sameer’s untimely death has now become a symbol of rising frustration over crumbling road safety across the region.
