Residents of Navi Peth fear flooding as boundary walls along Ambil Odha are damaged or missing. Despite Rs 200 crore approval, construction delays have left locals vulnerable before monsoon.

Pune | June 03, 2025: As the monsoon clouds loom large, anxiety is gripping the hearts of residents in Anand Bagh Gate, Bagh Society, and Baikunth Complex in Navi Peth. With the boundary walls along the Ambil Odha drain either partially collapsed or missing altogether, locals now fear that even a moderate downpour could send floodwaters gushing straight into their homes.
The drain, which runs through this central part of the city, has become a source of dread instead of drainage. Crumbling infrastructure and administrative apathy have only added to the looming crisis. “The rains are just around the corner, and we are the ones left exposed,” said a local resident, visibly upset. “There is no boundary wall to protect us — only the growing boundaries of our daily fear.”
Families with elderly members, young children, and working women are particularly vulnerable. Many have started preparing makeshift barriers or planning emergency exits, anticipating a repeat of past flooding incidents.
This alarming situation exists despite the fact that Rs 200 crore had been sanctioned by CM Devendra Fadnavis on the recommendation of MP Murlidhar Mohol for constructing a proper protective wall along Ambil Odha. However, due to delays in the tender process, not a single brick has been laid where it matters most.
“The system sleeps while our safety drowns,” said another resident. The monsoon may bring rains, but for these locals, it also brings sleepless nights.
