Notorious Fugitive in 2023 Pune Mob Attack Case Nabbed After Two-Year Manhunt
A fugitive wanted in a violent 2023 mob attack in Pune’s Wadgaonsheri was finally arrested by Chandannagar Police after nearly two years on the run. The dramatic late-night operation followed a tip-off near Kharadi, marking a major win for law enforcement and reassurance for the local community.

Pune, April 21, 2025: In a major breakthrough, Chandannagar Police have arrested a long-wanted fugitive involved in a violent mob attack that terrorized Pune’s Wadgaonsheri area in October 2023. The dramatic late-night operation ended a nearly two-year manhunt and marks a significant success in the city’s efforts to combat organized violence.
The case dates back to an incident where 6–8 bike-borne assailants, armed with sharp weapons and wooden sticks, allegedly attacked a local resident, damaged vehicles, and created widespread panic in the neighborhood. The brazen assault led to multiple charges, including rioting, unlawful assembly, and violations under the Arms Act.
While most of the accused were arrested, one prime suspect had managed to evade capture — frequently changing hideouts and taunting law enforcement’s resolve.
The breakthrough came when undercover officers received intelligence about the suspect’s presence near Kharadi. Acting swiftly, the police launched an operation during which the accused attempted to escape but was apprehended after a brief chase.
His identity was confirmed as the absconding accused from the 2023 incident.
The successful arrest was led under the guidance of DCP Himmat Jadhav (Zone 4), ACP Pranjali Sonawane, Senior Inspector Seema Dhakne, PSI Ajay Aswale, and officers Havaldar Vishwanath Gone, Shekhar Shinde, Ramchandra Gurav, and Vikas Kadam.
Police officials hailed the arrest as a testament to relentless investigation and teamwork. They emphasized that the operation sends a strong message — justice may be delayed, but it will not be denied.
