Pune | May 21st, 2025: Olympian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh has been provisionally banned after testing positive for banned substances. Facing a second offense, he could be banned for eight years, jeopardizing his athletic career.
Indian javelin thrower and Tokyo Olympian Shivpal Singh has tested positive for banned stimulants during a regular urine test conducted at a training camp earlier this year. He has been provisionally suspended. This is the second time he has returned a positive result, and if found guilty, the 29-year-old athlete could face an eight-year ban, effectively ending his professional career.
The urine sample was collected while Shivpal was training at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) confirmed the presence of prohibited substances and issued a provisional ban pending a final hearing. Sources within the athletics community have verified the development and confirmed this is Shivpal’s second doping offense.
Under the regulations of NADA and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), a second doping offense carries a penalty of up to eight years of ineligibility from the sport. The outcome will depend on the final decision following the due process of appeal and review.
Shivpal became well-known in 2019 for winning a silver medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in Doha, with a personal best throw of 86.23 meters. He represented India at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 but did not qualify for the finals, finishing 27th overall.
The latest development has sent ripples through the Indian athletics community, casting a shadow on the career of one of the country’s top javelin throwers.
