A newlywed Pakistani couple ended their lives after failing to afford a honeymoon. This incident reflects how emotional pressure, poverty, and unrealistic expectations can push vulnerable people to devastating extremes.
Chak Jumra, Pakistan | June 16, 2025: In a distressing incident from Chak Jumra near Faisalabad, Pakistan, a newlywed couple ended their lives by jumping in front of a moving train, unable to bear the disappointment of not going on a honeymoon due to financial hardship. The tragedy has drawn attention to the emotional toll of societal and familial expectations amid Pakistan’s ongoing economic crisis.
The victims have been identified as Sajid (34), a laborer in a power loom factory, and his wife Razia Bibi (30). The couple had been married for just over two and a half months and had dreamt of visiting the scenic hill station Naran after Eid. But with mounting financial constraints and no support from family, that dream remained unfulfilled.
Sajid reportedly requested financial help from his elder brothers for their honeymoon, but both declined, citing their own limitations. In a moment of desperation, Sajid and Razia left home early Tuesday morning and reached Bhaiwala railway crossing. Sajid made a final call to his brother Zahid, telling him, “I am ending my wife’s life. Come and collect our bodies.”
By the time Zahid realized the seriousness of the call, it was too late. The Badar Express, heading from Lahore to Karachi, had already passed—claiming both lives. Witnesses and local residents rushed to the scene, finding the couple’s dismembered bodies on the tracks.
The couple’s bodies were retrieved with help from bystanders and later handed over to the family after necessary legal formalities, local police confirmed.
Further investigation revealed that tensions and family disputes had caused the couple to live separately just 15 days after marriage, worsening their emotional strain. Neighbors described both Sajid and Razia as emotionally fragile and deeply affected by their circumstances.
This case has triggered conversations about the crushing weight of unfulfilled expectations and the lack of emotional and economic support systems. The couple’s final act has exposed how even small, deeply personal dreams can become unbearable burdens in the face of poverty, emotional neglect, and societal pressure.
