Pimpri-Chinchwad residents will soon have a local district and sessions court, ending the need for long trips to Pune for legal matters. The state cabinet’s approval marks a significant step toward accessible justice for the growing city.
Pune | 31 July, 2025: Pimpri-Chinchwad, a bustling industrial hub near Pune, is set to gain a vital piece of infrastructure: its own district and sessions court, along with a high-level civil court. This long-awaited development, recently greenlit by the state cabinet, promises to bring justice closer to home for the city’s residents, sparing them the hassle of traveling 16 kilometers to Pune for legal proceedings. The decision addresses the growing needs of a rapidly expanding population grappling with traffic congestion, industrialization, and an increasing number of legal cases.
For years, residents have faced the inconvenience of navigating to Pune for both criminal and civil cases, a journey made more challenging by the city’s growth and traffic woes. The push for a local court system came to fruition through persistent efforts to meet the demands of a community outgrowing its current judicial setup. The new courts will streamline access to justice, making it easier for locals to resolve disputes and seek legal recourse without the added burden of travel.
The cabinet’s approval includes funding for 54 new positions to support the courts’ operations, with 26 posts for the district and sessions court, 24 for the civil court, and four for the public prosecutor’s office. This initiative comes with an annual budget of ₹4.3 crore for recurring expenses and ₹68 lakh for one-time costs, totaling ₹4.98 crore. The investment reflects a commitment to strengthening Pimpri-Chinchwad’s infrastructure to match its rapid development as a civic and industrial powerhouse.
To accommodate the new courts, existing properties owned by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will be repurposed, ensuring a cost-effective setup. Additionally, 19 vacant homes in the Ajmera government colony in Pimpri have been designated for judges’ accommodation, providing a practical solution to support the court’s operations. These arrangements highlight the thoughtful planning behind the initiative, aiming to integrate the new facilities seamlessly into the city’s framework.
For the people of Pimpri-Chinchwad, this development is a game-changer. No longer will they need to endure long commutes or navigate Pune’s crowded courts to address legal matters. The local courts will offer a more convenient and efficient way to seek justice, fostering a sense of relief and empowerment among residents. This move also underscores the importance of adapting civic services to keep pace with urban growth, ensuring that infrastructure evolves alongside the community’s needs.
The approval of the district and sessions court is a milestone for Pimpri-Chinchwad, signaling a brighter, more accessible future for its judicial system. As the city continues to thrive as an industrial and residential hub, this justice boost will make a meaningful difference in the lives of its people, offering them the convenience and fairness they deserve.
