Police Fails To Get Extended Custody Of Swargate Case Accused Dattatreya Gade
By Mrudula Narale
Pune – In a significant development in the Swargate harassment case, a Pune court has rejected the police’s plea for further custody of the accused, Dattatreya Gade. The decision comes after Gade spent several days in police custody following his arrest in a sexual assault case and for threatening the victim.
Police Investigation and Court’s Decision
The Pune Police had sought an extension of Gade’s custody, arguing that they needed more time to gather additional evidence and complete their probe. However, the court ruled that the investigating officers had already been granted sufficient time to question the accused and collect necessary statements.
Public Prosecutor Sunil Ghorpade stated, “While we respect the court’s decision, we have compiled substantial evidence against the accused, including witness testimonies and CCTV footage. We are confident in our case.”
Meanwhile, Gade’s defense lawyer argued that his client had fully cooperated with the investigation and that no further police custody was necessary.
Next Steps in the Legal Proceedings
With the court’s rejection of extended custody, Gade will now remain in judicial custody as the case proceeds to trial. The next hearing is scheduled for next week, where further arguments and evidence will be presented.
