Pune, April 16, 2025 – Pune is reeling under an intense heatwave, with temperatures crossing 40°C in most parts of the city. Areas near the airport consistently showed higher readings compared to other parts of the city, likely due to increasing urbanization and heavy traffic creating heat-trapping conditions. While some localities had briefly enjoyed relief earlier this month with slightly cooler weather, the mercury has climbed back to dangerous levels.
Across the city, different areas reported similarly high temperatures, all hovering around the 40°C mark. The surrounding district also saw temperatures ranging between 38-39°C, with no immediate respite in sight.
Weather experts indicate that the heatwave conditions affecting neighboring states are now spreading across Maharashtra The weather department defines a heatwave when temperatures stay above 40°C and remain significantly higher than normal averages.
The scorching weather has disrupted daily life, with many adjusting their routines to avoid the peak afternoon heat. Outdoor workers have changed their schedules, while public spaces see fewer visitors during daytime hours.
Authorities have issued standard heatwave advisories, recommending people stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and watch for signs of heat stress. Special attention is advised for vulnerable groups including children, elderly citizens, and pets.
As the city waits for cooler weather, residents are being forced to adapt to these extreme conditions, with the current heatwave showing no signs of breaking soon.
