Pune | May 19, 2025: Acting on persistent complaints by citizens, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has increased its efforts to clear unauthorized encroachments on busy roads and pavement across the city. Civic head Dr. Rajendra Bhosale had received several complaints of lethargy of the encroachment department, leading to prompt action.
Encroachment Inspector Sachin Utale of the Shivajinagar-Ghole Road division led recent drives. From desirable locations such Deep Bungalow Chowk, FC Road, and the Pune-Mumbai Highway, authorities cleared hawkers, illegal booths, and temporary constructions. Additionally seized were a few tiny businesses and handcarts consuming public space. Major cleaning activities were seen at locations like Narpatgiri Chowk and Maldhakka Chowk, where plastic seats, iron tables, sheds, and sugarcane boxes were removed. During the drive at Baner next to Gaikwad Hospital, iron cabins, toilets, and steel counters were collected.
Tulshibaug and Juna Bazar Road received extensive clearing activities while acting on constant obstruction of pedestrian pathways. Officials also destroyed unauthorized buildings outside Congress Bhavan and near Sinchan Bhavan. Mobile civic units were positioned here for the entire day to prevent re-encroachment. Meanwhile, an evening operation cleared illegal street vendors at Ferguson College Road’s pavement. Additional surveillance was conducted at Raj Bhavan Road as well as in the Gokhale Nagar and Patil Estate belt, where street vendors operating on the Palkhi Marg were displaced by unannounced inspection.
The drive is in line with a strong initiative by PMC to put public infrastructure back in its original purpose. With growing urban traffic and pedestrian hassle, the drive is being viewed both as a warning and a corrective measure much needed. The administration emphasized that such actions will continue to maintain order and ensure ease of movement for citizens.
