Pune woman who accused a delivery boy of rape fabricated the story, say police. A case has been filed against her for false evidence and misleading authorities. Investigation continues.
Pune | July 22, 2025:  A sensational case that had earlier triggered outrage over women’s safety has now taken a shocking turn — Pune Police have revealed that the 22-year-old woman who accused a delivery boy of rape in the Kondhwa area had fabricated the entire story.
On July 3, the young woman, a data scientist by profession, claimed that a delivery boy sprayed a chemical into her eyes and sexually assaulted her. The incident had drawn public attention and raised serious concerns about law and order. However, a detailed police investigation has now revealed that no such assault took place.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, the police launched a careful inquiry and uncovered multiple inconsistencies in the woman’s claims. The accused allegedly deleted original photos from her phone, edited and cropped images to mislead investigators, and even tried to manipulate medical officers.
As a result, Pune City Police have filed a non-cognizable case against her under IPC Sections 212 (harboring an offender), 217 (public servant disobeying law with intent to save person), 228 (intentional insult or interruption to public servant), and 229 (false evidence). The investigation was initiated only after obtaining court permission due to the non-cognizable nature of the charges.
The woman has been accused of not only filing a false rape case, but also of attempting to manufacture and manipulate evidence to support her allegations — a move that now carries serious legal consequences.
The initial complaint had sparked widespread panic, discussions about women’s safety, and criticism of delivery platforms. However, with this twist in the investigation, focus has now shifted toward misuse of legal provisions, and how such cases can impact genuine survivors and falsely implicate innocent people.
