The suspect, hailing from Beed but residing in Thane, had been employed by a Pune resident when he made off with cash from his employer’s vehicle. The theft, registered as Crime No. 153/2025 under Section 306 of the BNS at Kalepadal Police Station, sparked a determined manhunt that spanned Miraj-Sangli, Beed, Pune Rural, Mumbai, Mumbra, and Thane.
The fugitive proved elusive, switching off his phone and using devices borrowed from strangers—rickshaw drivers, cab drivers, hotel waiters, and passersby—to contact relatives, making it nearly impossible to track him. Despite repeated near-misses at various locations, the suspect always slipped away. However, the Pune Police’s persistence paid off through a breakthrough in technical analysis. A dedicated constable used digital forensics to pinpoint the suspect’s location, setting the stage for a carefully planned operation.
On July 27, 2025, a team of officers laid a trap near Shildayghar Police Station in Mumbra, Thane. With the help of the suspect’s friend, they swiftly took him into custody. A search revealed stolen goods worth ₹15,06,420, including cash, gold jewelry, a four-wheeler vehicle, and a mobile phone—items linked directly to the crime. The recovery was a significant victory, not only returning stolen property but also delivering justice to the employer who trusted the driver.
