Pune transformed into a vibrant tapestry of faith and unity as the sacred palkhi processions of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj arrived, drawing thousands of devotees. The city’s streets pulsed with the rhythmic chants of Warkaris, their voices blending with the sounds of cymbals and mridangas, creating an atmosphere steeped in spirituality. Residents of all ages lined the roads, their faces alight with reverence, eager to catch a glimpse of the revered palkhis.
The procession of Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s palkhi reached Pune on Friday afternoon, pausing at Khadki before advancing to Engineering College Chowk by evening. A helicopter showered petals from above, while a tide of devotees surged forward for darshan, their devotion palpable. The palkhi found its resting place at Shri Nivdunga Vitthoba Temple in Nanapeth, where it will remain through Saturday.
Simultaneously, Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s palkhi began its journey from Alandi, arriving at Vishrantwadi by mid-afternoon. Devotees in Dhanori welcomed the procession with warmth, and by evening, it reached Engineering College Chowk, alive with the energy of Haripath chants. The palkhi later rested at Palakhi Vitthoba Temple in Bhavani Peth, after passing through throngs of devotees along Fergusson Road, Tilak Chowk, and Laxmi Road.
Pune’s residents embraced the Warkaris with open hearts, setting up water stalls, breakfast counters, and health check-ups along the routes. Students at a grooming academy offered free haircuts, while mobile ambulances provided medical care. The air resonated with bhajans and a captivating Bharud performance by a Warkari from Nanded, enchanting both locals and pilgrims.
A brief moment of tension arose when a group objected to a participant leading Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s chariot, but swift police intervention restored harmony. With over 6,500 officers ensuring safety under meticulous planning, the processions moved smoothly through the crowded streets, monitored by CCTV and supported by special arrangements for the dindis.
The Indian Army distributed fruits and water, while local organizations hosted community initiatives, reflecting Pune’s deep-rooted spirit of service. As the city united in devotion, the palkhi processions became a powerful symbol of faith, community, and resilience, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who witnessed this sacred journey.
