Pune’s Local Crime Branch launched a swift operation in Daund, seizing illegal ganja and tobacco products worth lakhs. Three suspects were arrested, showcasing the police’s commitment to curbing illicit trade.
Pune | 28 July, 2025: On July 25 and 26, 2025, the streets of Daund became the focus of a determined effort by Pune’s Local Crime Branch to tackle the illegal drug and tobacco trade. Acting on reliable tips, the police conducted three targeted raids, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of contraband worth over ₹5 lakh. The operations, carried out in the Daund police station area, reflect the city’s ongoing battle to keep its communities safe from the dangers of illicit substances, offering hope to residents weary of such activities in their neighborhoods.

The first raid, on July 25, unfolded near Malganga Lawns on the Ahmedabad-Pune road. A police team, led by Inspector Sandesh Kenzale, set up a trap after learning two men were transporting ganja for sale on a motorcycle. The suspects, both 29-year-olds from Taklihaji, were stopped and searched, revealing 4.185 kg of ganja valued at ₹80,000. The police confiscated the drugs and the motorcycle, charging the duo under the NDPS Act for illegal drug trafficking. Their arrest sent a strong message about the consequences of dealing in banned substances.
Later that day, the same team raided Gulmohar Apartment in Burud Ali, Daund, targeting a 36-year-old resident suspected of stockpiling prohibited tobacco products. The search uncovered gutka, tobacco, and pan masala worth ₹3,56,781, all harmful to public health. The suspect was taken into custody, and a case was filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Food Safety and Standards Act. This seizure highlighted the hidden dangers of unregulated tobacco sales, which often go unnoticed but pose serious health risks to communities.
On July 26, the police struck again, this time in Mangalmurti Nagar, Daund. Acting on another tip, they raided the home of a 33-year-old from Kamathipura, seizing 8 kg of ganja worth ₹1,20,000. The suspect, caught with the drugs intended for sale, was arrested and handed over for further investigation. The operation, supported by senior officials and executed with precision, used local intelligence and coordination to ensure success.
These raids are more than just police actions—they’re about protecting families and communities from the grip of addiction and harmful substances. The Local Crime Branch’s swift response, guided by senior officers, shows a deep commitment to making Daund safer. For residents, these efforts bring a sense of relief, knowing their streets are being watched over by a dedicated force determined to root out illegal trade.
