Pune | July 22, 2025: Budhwar Peth, Pune’s infamous red-light area, has once again come under the scanner after a string of illegal activities involving foreign nationals came to light. In recent operations, Pune Police have detained 13 Bangladeshi women allegedly living and engaging in prostitution illegally.

Since Deputy Commissioner of Police Hrishikesh Rawale assumed office, the police have adopted a more aggressive approach towards tackling the presence of undocumented foreign nationals in this area. In two separate raids—one on July 2 and the other in the last few days—Faraskhana Police detained a total of 13 Bangladeshi women, eight in the first and five in the recent operation.

Among the recently detained are:

Jahanara Majid Sheikh (45), Shilpi Begum Rabiullah Sheikh (28), Nusrat Jahan Nipa (28), Shilpi Khalekmiya Akhtar (38), Asha Khanamyar Ali (30), resident of Katraj

All of them are currently facing restraining orders, and police have begun the official repatriation process to send them back to Bangladesh. Their identities have been verified and documentation is underway.

This crackdown is part of a broader move to clean up Budhwar Peth and curb the illegal trafficking and residence of foreign nationals. Authorities have signaled that similar operations will continue in the coming weeks.
