Pune, April 10, 2025: In an endeavour towards public safety and community welfare, the Pune Railway Police have eliminated over 384 kilograms of illegal drugs—taking a bold and uncompromising stand against the silent scourge of narcotics that endangers countless lives and families across the region.
This sweeping action, carried out with precision and dedication, is the result of years of vigilant policing across railway stations in Pune, Daund, Kurduwadi, Solapur, and Miraj. The seized haul—384 kilograms and 312 grams of cannabis(ganja) and charas—spanned 15 criminal cases dating back to 1981, symbolizing decades of effort to keep harmful substances off our streets and away from the youth.

For the families traveling by train, for the children growing up in these towns, and for the communities that deserve peace, this operation is more than just a law enforcement success—it’s a safeguard of everyday life. The estimated street value of the destroyed drugs was ₹6,60,976, but the real value lies in the countless lives potentially protected from addiction, crime, and ruin.
With utmost care, officials from the Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board and the Department of Weights and Measures ensured the process met environmental and legal standards. After completing the formal inventory at the Pune, Daund, and Miraj courts, the narcotics were taken to the Pune Railway Police Headquarters in Khadki, where they were incinerated using specialized equipment—completely and safely.
This 9-hour-long operation wasn’t just about burning drugs; it was about reigniting the public’s trust in law enforcement. Leading the operation was Tushar Doshi, Superintendent: GRP Pune, alongside Addl. Superintendent GRP, Pune Rohidas Pawar and Inspector Irfan Shaikh. Several officers from the local crime branch and various railway police stations were also actively involved in this operation, including Senior Police Inspector M. Gurav, Police Sub-Inspector Ravindra Bhide, Arif Syed, Vinod Ghate, and SharadDesai.
While speaking to NewsDotz, Tushar Joshi, Superintendent, GRP Pune stated “In line with the Supreme Court guidelines, we ensure that all legal formalities are completed, and such narcotics seizures are destroyed every six months. Our team remains vigilant and operates both in prevention and detection modes. On the detection front, we have intensified patrolling—particularly on specific train routes where narcotics seizures have previously occurred—with active support from the Railway Protection Force (RPF)”.
