A Pune woman, a government officer, faced harrowing abuse as her husband allegedly used spy cameras to record her private moments and blackmailed her for ₹1.5 lakh. A case against him and six relatives has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Pune | 23 July 2025: In a deeply disturbing case that has shaken Pune’s Ambegaon community, a 30-year-old woman, a Class II government officer, has come forward with allegations of unimaginable betrayal by her husband, also a government employee. Since their marriage in 2020, she endured relentless mental and physical harassment, culminating in her husband allegedly installing spy cameras in their bedroom and bathroom to record her private moments, including while bathing. These recordings were used to blackmail her, with threats to leak the videos online unless she paid ₹1.5 lakh to cover car and home loan EMIs. The case, reported on July 21, 2025, has led to an FIR against the husband and six relatives, including his mother, three sisters, and two brothers-in-law, under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The woman’s ordeal began shortly after her marriage, with her husband accusing her of infidelity and subjecting her to physical and verbal abuse. The spy cameras, a shocking violation of her privacy, were allegedly used to monitor her every move, even while he was at work. The blackmail escalated when he demanded money from her parents, exploiting the intimate footage to coerce compliance. This abuse, spanning from June 2020 to February 2025 across Ambegaon and Wadgaonsheri, left the woman living in fear, her trust shattered by the very person meant to protect her. The involvement of his family in the harassment added to her anguish, making her feel isolated and trapped.
The Ambegaon Police acted swiftly, registering a case on July 21 under BNS sections 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and other provisions. Investigators are now analyzing technical evidence, including the spy cameras and footage, to build a robust case. The incident has sparked outrage in Pune, where residents are reeling from the audacity of such a violation by a government official entrusted with public service. The woman’s courage in filing the complaint has inspired calls for stronger protections against domestic abuse and digital voyeurism.
This case highlights the devastating impact of technology misuse in domestic settings, particularly when wielded by those in positions of power.
