Newly merged villages in Pune receive ₹5 crore each to tackle waste, water, and infrastructure challenges. The funds aim to uplift communities and enhance living conditions.
Pune, June 26, 2025 – A wave of hope is sweeping through 23 villages recently brought under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Uruli Phursungi Municipal Council, as the Maharashtra Urban Development Department allocates ₹5 crore per village for critical civic improvements. This financial boost targets long-standing issues like waste management, foul odours from garbage depots, and unreliable water supply, promising a better quality of life for residents in these rapidly urbanizing areas.
The decision emerged from a high-level meeting focused on addressing the growing pains of these merged localities. Authorities have been directed to overhaul the depot’s operations, introducing sustainable solutions like vermicomposting, source-level waste segregation, and designated composting pits to curb the problem swiftly.

Water scarcity, another pressing issue, took center stage as local representatives and residents called for access to treated water from the Jambhulwadi reservoir. With a capacity of 65 million cubic feet, this reservoir could quench the thirst of villages like Ambegaon Khurd, Ambegaon Budruk, Mangadewadi, Bhilarewadi, Koliwade, and Gujar Nimbalkarvadi, easing the strain on these communities.
The allocated funds will fuel essential infrastructure projects, aiming to transform these villages into thriving urban hubs. For families and individuals in these areas, the initiative signals a commitment to addressing their daily struggles, fostering cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable neighborhoods.
