The 13-kilometer Hinjawadi-Balewadi metro stretch, set to open by September 2025, will ease traffic for Pune’s commuters. This vital link will connect IT hubs and residential areas, enhancing safety and connectivity.

In a promising step toward easing Pune’s notorious traffic woes, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is set to launch a 13-kilometer metro stretch from Megapolis Circle to Balewadi Phata by September 2025. This eagerly awaited development promises to bring relief to thousands of daily commuters, particularly IT professionals, residents, and students navigating the congested corridors of Hinjawadi and Balewadi.

The Hinjawadi-Balewadi metro line, part of the larger 23.3-kilometer Metro Line 3 connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, is a beacon of hope for Pune’s rapidly growing western suburbs. These areas, home to bustling IT parks, residential complexes, and educational hubs, have long struggled with gridlocked roads and inadequate public transport. The new metro stretch will offer a safe, efficient, and eco-friendly alternative, reducing reliance on private vehicles and easing the daily struggles of commuters. A recent successful trial run from Maan Depot to PMR-4 station marked a significant milestone, bringing the project closer to reality for the people of Pune.

For IT employees in Hinjawadi’s Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, students at nearby colleges, and families in Balewadi, the metro promises to transform daily commutes. The stretch includes key stations like Balewadi Stadium and Wakad Chowk, ensuring seamless connectivity to vital commercial and residential zones. The air-conditioned coaches, built with modern technology, prioritize commuter comfort and sustainability, aligning with Pune’s vision of a smarter, greener urban future. The project, executed under a public-private partnership with Tata Group and Siemens, reflects a collective commitment to addressing the city’s infrastructure challenges.

Despite earlier delays due to land acquisition and traffic disruptions, the PMRDA’s accelerated efforts have restored hope among residents. The community is eagerly awaiting the metro’s launch, which is expected to alleviate congestion and enhance safety, particularly for women and young commuters. As Pune continues to grow as a major IT and educational hub, this metro stretch symbolizes progress and resilience, promising a brighter, more connected future for its people.
