Pune’s ‘PMC Road Mitra’ App Empowers Residents to Tackle Pothole Woes

A new mobile app launched by Pune Municipal Corporation allows citizens to report potholes with ease, ensuring faster repairs and greater accountability. The initiative aims to make Pune’s roads safer, especially during the challenging monsoon season.

Pune | 26 July, 2025: Pune’s roads, often plagued by potholes, have long been a source of frustration for residents, particularly during the monsoon when waterlogging conceals dangerous craters, leading to accidents. In response, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced the ‘PMC Road Mitra’ app, a game-changer designed to empower citizens in addressing this persistent issue. Launched by the PMC’s Road Department, the app enables residents to report potholes directly by uploading photos or videos, which are automatically tagged with precise GPS coordinates for accurate location tracking.

The app’s user-friendly interface simplifies the process of lodging complaints, ensuring that concerns reach the right officials swiftly. Once a pothole is reported, the complaint is forwarded to the junior engineer responsible for the specific zone. To promote accountability, engineers must upload “before” and “after” images of the repaired pothole, and the complaint is marked as resolved only after this step is completed. This transparent system aims to prevent complaints from being overlooked, addressing a common grievance among citizens about ignored or delayed responses.

Beyond empowering residents, the ‘PMC Road Mitra’ app serves as a powerful monitoring tool for PMC engineers and senior officials. A dedicated dashboard allows the Road Department to track complaint statuses, including which issues have been resolved, which remain pending, and which officers have taken action. This feature ensures better oversight and timely repairs, fostering a more responsive civic administration. Currently available on Android via the Play Store, the app is accessible to a wide range of users, with an iOS version in development for future release.
