Pune, April 21, 2025: Pune’s congested railway system is about to get much-needed relief as two alternative terminals at Hadapsar and Khadaki near completion, with strict deadlines set by railway authorities. The Khadki terminal is expected to be functional within the next six months, whereas the more extensive Hadapsar project is on track to be completed by December 2025. These developments come as a direct response to the severe overcrowding at Pune’s main railway station, which currently handles over 250,000 daily passengers and more than 150 trains, including 51 originating services.
The new terminals will significantly ease pressure on the existing infrastructure by providing additional platforms, modern passenger amenities, and improved operational capacity. At Hadapsar, construction under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ scheme is already 90% complete, featuring extended platforms, executive lounges, and covered walkways. Meanwhile, Khadaki’s development includes two new platforms to accommodate growing demand. These projects not only promise immediate congestion relief but also enable the long-planned redevelopment of Pune’s main station, which will gain two additional platforms and upgraded facilities once the alternate terminals become operational.
