Purandar Airport Project Accelerated | Maharashtra Government Begins Land Acquisition Drive
Land acquisition for the Purandar International Airport project has commenced, with village centers being excluded from the process. Notices under the MIDC Act will be issued soon, affecting seven villages, with phased acquisition and public suggestions invited.
Pune, April 25, 2025: The long-awaited development of the international airport in Purandar taluka is finally picking up pace, with the district administration initiating concrete steps for land acquisition. Significantly, three Deputy District Magistrates have been appointed to handle the process, and a notification under Section 32(2) of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Act is expected within the next two days.
Seven villages in Purandar taluka including Vanpuri, Udachiwadi, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Munjawadi, Khanwadi, and Pargaon are selected for the upcoming airport project —The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), along with the District Collector’s office, is managing the acquisition process, which will be carried out in a phased manner.
Importantly, the administration has decided to exclude village centers from the acquisition to minimize displacement. As a result, only 30% to 70% of the land in each village will be acquired, depending on the local layout and population density. Officials stated that the exact figures will become clear after a detailed survey.
Once the official notification is issued, landowners will receive notices, and restrictions will be placed on the buying and selling of identified plots. Acquisition stamps will be marked on the 7/12 land records, effectively freezing any further transactions.
Land acquisition officers will also conduct physical inspections of the sites.
Pargaon will see the highest land acquisition — 972 hectares from 1,542 survey numbers. Khanwadi follows with 451 hectares, Kumbharvalan with 341 hectares, and Vanpuri with 330 hectares. Other affected villages include Udachiwadi (240 hectares), Ekhatpur (214 hectares), and Munjawadi (122 hectares).
Citizens will be given an opportunity to raise objections or share suggestions before final decisions are implemented.
