Raj Thackeray calls for a July 5 march against Hindi imposition in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, Adv. Gunaratna Sadavarte opposes the rally, urging authorities to deny permission due to divisive concerns.

Mumbai, June 27,2025: MNS President Raj Thackeray has once again stirred the political waters by opposing the mandatory use of Hindi, calling for an all-party protest march on July 5 in defense of the Marathi identity. Thackeray has appealed to all citizens across Maharashtra to unite for this cause and join the rally, aimed at sending a strong message to policymakers.

In a potential political twist, there’s buzz that Uddhav Thackeray might also be seen walking alongside Raj Thackeray in the march, a rare occurrence that could signal unprecedented political unity for the Marathi cause.

However, the path to this protest isn’t without hurdles.

Prominent lawyer and activist Adv. Gunaratna Sadavarte has strongly opposed the planned rally. In a formal communication to the Education Minister, the Director General of Police, and the Mumbai Police Commissioner, he has demanded that the state deny permission for the protest.

Sadavarte maintains that the Hindi language should be made compulsory, not opposed. He alleges that Raj Thackeray’s campaign is sowing discord between linguistic communities and could lead to social unrest. In fact, he has already filed a formal complaint against Raj Thackeray at the Dadar Shivaji Park Police Station, accusing him of fueling anti-Hindi sentiment.

As the date for the march approaches, it remains to be seen whether the state administration will give the green signal for the rally or bow to the objections raised by Sadavarte. Either way, this controversy has once again brought language politics in Maharashtra to the center stage.
