Pune | June 03, 2025: In a chilling incident that has shaken Akola, Sanjay Kausal — the younger brother of senior Congress leader Vijay Kausal and a retired Public Works Department engineer — was brutally murdered on Monday night in the Ranpise Nagar area. He was 60 years old.
The accused, identified as Mahendra Pawar, who was previously jailed and out on bail, allegedly attacked Kausal near the Bara Jyotirlinga Temple. Initial interactions between the two escalated quickly due to an old dispute, culminating in Pawar striking Kausal multiple times on the head and chest with a sharp iron rod. The grievously injured Kausal was rushed to the Akola General Hospital by bystanders, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Shockingly, the entire incident was caught on nearby CCTV cameras, giving police critical evidence. Authorities confirmed that Pawar, known to have a criminal background in Sarai, had only recently been released on bail. The motive behind the murder is still under investigation, although preliminary reports suggest personal enmity could be a factor.
The Akola police acted swiftly, arresting Pawar shortly after the incident. Further inquiries are ongoing to determine whether there were additional motives or individuals involved.
