Ranchi | July 24, 2025: Team India suffered a major blow during the fourth Test against England as star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was seriously injured while batting. The incident occurred when Pant attempted a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes’ bowling and was struck hard on his left leg.

Pant immediately showed signs of severe pain, removed his boot on the field, and was seen with swelling and visible bleeding from his leg. The Indian medical team rushed in for treatment, but despite on-field first aid, the pain did not subside. He was later taken off the field in a medical vehicle, raising concerns over the severity of the injury.

Pant was retired hurt on 37 off 48 balls, with India at 212/3 at the time. He was replaced by Ravindra Jadeja, who came in to continue the innings. This is the second injury Pant has suffered in the series, as he had also picked up a knock while wicketkeeping in the previous match, forcing Dhruv Jurel to take over duties behind the stumps.

Earlier in the day, England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and chose to bowl first. Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) and KL Rahul (46) provided a solid 94-run opening stand, followed by a half-century from Sai Sudarshan, who replaced Karun Nair at No. 3.

India made three changes for this match. Akash Deep and Nitish Reddy were ruled out due to injuries, making way for Shardul Thakur and Anshul Kamboj, with the latter making his international debut.

The extent of Pant’s injury is yet to be confirmed, but his exit has cast a shadow over India’s strong start. The team management is expected to provide an official update soon.
