Pune | June 9, 2025: With COVID-19 cases inching upward in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has called an emergency meeting on Monday to review the situation and strengthen prevention strategies ahead of the monsoon season.
According to municipal data, 64 new COVID cases were reported in Pune between June 1 and June 6 — a noticeable rise compared to 108 cases logged during the entire month of May. Since January this year, the city has recorded 137 cases in total. Though the numbers remain under control, the onset of monsoon could trigger a further spike, prompting proactive action from civic authorities.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has instructed all relevant departments and health officials to be present at the meeting. Key topics on the agenda include tightening surveillance systems, ensuring adequate supply of medicines and hospital beds, ramping up testing, and refining public communication strategies to promote awareness and prevention.
“We are closely monitoring the trend in COVID cases. Standard operating procedures are already in place, and our goal is to be fully prepared to prevent any potential outbreak,” said Dr. Neena Borade, Chief Health Officer, PMC.
As the city braces for the monsoon — a period typically associated with increased risk of respiratory infections — civic officials are leaving no stone unturned to keep the situation under control and safeguard public health.
