In the Sakshi Kamble suicide case, accused woman constable Sheetal Kadam has been suspended. The action follows allegations of mental harassment that led Sakshi to end her life in Dharashiv.
Dharashiv | June 21:In a major development in the tragic Sakshi Kamble suicide case, which had sparked widespread outrage across Maharashtra, the state Home Department has taken direct disciplinary action against one of the key accused. Sheetal Eknath Kadam, a female police constable with the Mumbai Railway Police Force, has been suspended following allegations that she mentally harassed Sakshi, which ultimately drove the young woman to take her own life.
The shocking incident occurred on March 14, 2025, when Sakshi Kamble died by suicide by hanging herself in her residence in Dharashiv. Investigations revealed that she had been subjected to continuous mental torture at the hands of both Sheetal Kadam and Abhishek Kadam, the main accused. The case shook the conscience of the state and drew attention to growing concerns around abuse and harassment within law enforcement circles.
Initially, an FIR was registered at the Dharashiv police station, and the investigation was handed over to DySP Swapnil Rathod. However, several procedural lapses and irregularities surfaced during the initial probe. Taking serious note of this, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde removed Rathod from the case and transferred the investigation to Kalamb DySP Sanjay Pawar, aiming to ensure a fair and unbiased process.
The controversy intensified when Abhishek Kadam, after remaining untraceable for 20 days, appeared before the police and was granted bail within just 7 days, leading to widespread public suspicion and criticism of the legal handling.
Now, with the suspension of Sheetal Kadam, the Home Department has signaled that it is finally addressing the matter with seriousness. Though the action comes months after the incident, it marks a crucial step toward justice for Sakshi.
Meanwhile, Sakshi’s mother, Koyna Kamble, continues to fight for her daughter’s dignity and justice. She has appealed to Deputy CM Eknath Shinde to accelerate the legal proceedings so that those responsible for Sakshi’s death are brought to justice without delay.
