As Tukaram and Dnyaneshwar Maharaj palanquins reach Pune en route to Pandharpur, 7,000 police, drones, and AI surveillance ensure security. Crowd-control measures set to streamline temple exits.
Pune, June 20, 2025: The sacred Wari pilgrimage has entered Pune city, as the Sant Tukaram Maharaj palanquin from Dehu and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj palanquin from Alandi reach Pune today on their journey toward Pandharpur, where they are expected to arrive on July 5.
To ensure the safety of lakhs of devotees participating in this age-old spiritual tradition, the state administration has deployed over 7,000 police personnel along the palanquin route. Tight security arrangements are in place, with four drone cameras and artificial intelligence (AI) monitoring systems being used to track crowds and prevent any untoward incidents.
Special Inspector General Sunil Phulari has personally overseen security preparations for the past four days, especially focusing on Solapur rural areas, where the crowd typically intensifies. Bomb disposal squads and SRPF units will also accompany the procession throughout the entire route.
This year’s Wari will also be supported by a dedicated generator system, ensuring uninterrupted power for security, announcements, and health facilities along the way.
To address crowd congestion near the temple premises, particularly in the area where devotees return from Namdev Payri to the ghat and VIP gate, the administration has introduced a new exit management plan. Devotees will now be directed to bypass the main temple exit via the Tukaram Bhavan and Paschim Ghat route, where barricades will be installed to ensure smooth movement.
These modern, well-coordinated measures aim to blend devotion with safety, ensuring a peaceful and spiritually enriching Wari for all participants.
