Satara will host the 99th All India Marathi Literature Conference after 32 years. The conference, led by the Shahupuri branch of Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad, will be held at Chhatrapati Shahu Stadium.
Satara | June 9, 2025: The 99th All India Marathi Literature Conference will return to Satara after 32 years, bringing joy to local literary circles. The Shahupuri branch of Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad and the Mavla Foundation will jointly organize the prestigious event.
The decision was taken unanimously at a meeting of the All India Marathi Literature Conference (AIMLC) held in Pune, informed Prof. Milind Joshi, President of AIMLC. The meeting was attended by Vice President Guruyya Swami, Executive Sunita Raje Pawar, Treasurer Vinod Kulkarni, and representatives from various affiliated literary organizations.
Selection Process
To finalize the venue, a Venue Selection Committee was constituted. The committee visited organizations across Maharashtra on June 5, 6, and 7. Invitations were received from Sadanand Sahitya Mandal (Audumbara), Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad branch Ichalkaranji, South Maharashtra Sahitya Sabha (Kolhapur), and Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad branch Shahupuri (Satara).
After site inspections and deliberations, the committee met in Pune on June 8 and unanimously selected Satara. The decision was later ratified by the AIMLC’s general body.
Historical Significance
Prof. Milind Joshi highlighted that this will be the fourth time Satara hosts the literary conclave. Previously, the city hosted the event in:
- 1905 (3rd conference) chaired by Raghunath Pandurang Karandikar
- 1962 (44th conference) chaired by N. V. Gadgil
- 1993 (66th conference) chaired by Vidyadhar Gokhale
The upcoming conference fulfills a long-standing effort by the Shahupuri branch, which had been pursuing the opportunity for the past 12 years.
Planned Venue & Facilities
The event will be held at Chhatrapati Shahu Stadium, the same venue as the 66th conference. The 14-acre stadium will house:
- A main pavilion
- Two additional pavilions
- A book exhibition
- Poet and Ghazal Katta
- Food courts
In addition, three halls will be used for parallel sessions. The stadium gallery can accommodate 25,000 spectators, and the venue’s central location ensures easy accessibility. An adjacent 8-acre Police Parade Ground will provide parking facilities.
