Jalna | July 29, 2025: – A disturbing case of sexual misconduct has emerged at the residential sports academy hostel of Jalna Zilla Parishad, where Pramod Gulabrao Kharat, the hostel manager since 2019, has been arrested for allegedly molesting minor girls. Kharat, ironically a recipient of the Model Teacher Award, faces serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following complaints from four girls.
According to reports, Kharat would summon the girls to his office after school hours, under the pretext of praising them, and engage in inappropriate behavior. Investigations revealed he made the girls feel ashamed by claiming he had a fever, using it as an excuse for his misconduct. The hostel, home to 39 girls from rural areas training in sports, became a site of alleged abuse over an extended period. The case surfaced when Group Education Officer Manoj Kolhe filed a complaint, leading to Kharat’s arrest at Kadim Jalna police station. Sub-divisional police officer Anant Kulkarni confirmed that statements from the four girls have been recorded, and Kharat was remanded to police custody for two days.
Police suspect Kharat’s misconduct may have affected more victims, with further revelations expected as the investigation deepens. The incident has shocked the community, raising questions about oversight at the academy and the safety of vulnerable students.
