A dog’s timely barking saved 67 lives in Siathi village, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, just before a landslide buried homes. Villagers now shelter in a temple, many suffering from trauma and illness.

Himachal Pradesh | July 09, 2025: In a heart-stirring incident that brings back memories of the tragic Malin landslide in Pune (2014), the village of Siathi in the Dharmapur area of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, narrowly escaped complete devastation due to sudden flash floods and a landslide. The reason? A village dog’s timely barking, which alerted sleeping villagers and saved 67 lives.
On the night of June 30, torrential rains lashed the region. Around midnight, while everyone was asleep, a dog on the second floor of one house began barking frantically and crying. The commotion woke up Narendra, a local resident, who discovered a large crack forming in the wall and water rushing in. Realizing the danger, he quickly raised an alarm, woke his family, and helped evacuate the rest of the villagers to a safer location uphill in Tryambala village.
Just moments later, a massive portion of the nearby mountain collapsed, burying nearly the entire village under mud and debris. Only 4–5 houses remain standing; the rest are now unrecognizable beneath the rubble.

For the past seven days, displaced villagers, including women, elderly, and children, have been taking shelter at the Naina Devi Temple in Tryambala. A Himachal Pradesh Health Department team currently stationed there has reported that several survivors are suffering from high blood pressure, trauma, and depression due to the disaster.
This incident is a chilling reminder of the Malin tragedy but with a miraculous twist—where a dog’s instinct and alertness became a life-saving alarm for an entire village.
