Sinhagad Road Traffic Snarls Worsen Due to Flyover Work and Encroachments
Flyover construction and roadside encroachments at Hingane Chowk have narrowed Sinhagad Road, causing daily traffic jams. Citizens demand urgent cleanup, strict action on unruly vehicles, and faster project completion.
Pune, May 06, 2025: Commuters traveling along Sinhagad Road are facing escalating traffic woes as road narrowing, ongoing flyover construction, and encroachments at Hingane Chowk continue to cause long queues and daily chaos. With one side of the road partially shut and the other choked with stalled traffic, residents and drivers are now demanding swift intervention from the city administration.
Currently, the third phase of the Tanganpala flyover project is underway, stretching from Manikbagh to Hingane petrol pump. As part of this construction, one of the two lanes on the Dhayari-to-Swargate route— especially in front of Madhukar Hospital at Anandnagar Chowk—has been cordoned off, leaving hardly enough space for a single lane of traffic.
To add insult to injury, the lanes are littered with construction material even after the work has been done. Not only does this contribute to the jam, but it is also a hazard to both motorists and pedestrians. Four-wheelers left randomly along a nearby mall regularly block the already narrow route.
In cases where buses or other heavy trucks move through, the road is completely clogged, leaving small vehicles in a jam and causing huge pileups behind. “It’s not just about traffic jams anymore—people are wasting hours stuck here, burning fuel unnecessarily and getting delayed for work, appointments, or school runs. It’s becoming unlivable,” said a frustrated commuter who uses the stretch daily.
Adding to the mess is the unchecked encroachment near Hingane Chowk. Temporary shops, illegally parked vehicles, and construction-related debris have further shrunk the usable road space. Local citizens have expressed concern that the administration has not taken adequate steps to mitigate these issues despite repeated complaints.
Residents have now raised the following demands:
* Leftover construction material and debris should be removed
* Proper parking management near commercial establishments along the road.
* Strict action against vehicles violating road discipline or causing bottlenecks.
* Acceleration of flyover construction to restore normal road width as soon as possible.
If timely steps are not taken, citizens fear the chaos will only intensify, especially with monsoon season approaching. Many feel that the administration must act decisively and with urgency to ensure smoother and safer commutes on Sinhagad Road.
