Pune, April 11, 2025:
Congress state vice-president and MLA Mohan Joshi has renewed his attack on the BJP-led government, accusing it of failing to deliver on the much-hyped Smart City promises made to the people of Pune. Joshi expressed disappointment that despite years of planning and heavy expenditure, the city has seen little transformation under the Smart Cities Mission.
“Pune’s Smart City mission, once hailed as a transformative initiative, has fallen short of its goals, leaving citizens disillusioned,” Joshi stated.
Targeting BJP’s Election Promises
Joshi pointed to the Baner-Balewadi area—designated as a priority development zone—and criticized the minimal on-ground progress made there. “The BJP made grand promises to the people of Pune during elections to win their votes. But today, none of those promises have been fulfilled,” he asserted.
Shelving of Incomplete Projects
As the Smart City initiative phases out, Joshi noted that many incomplete projects are being quietly shelved. He blamed the BJP for a lack of transparency and accountability, stating that even in areas where some work has been done, the impact on infrastructure, technology, and residents’ quality of life is negligible.
Demand for Accountability
“The people of Pune believed in the BJP’s vision—but what they got was a publicity stunt, not progress,” Joshi added.
With questions rising over how the Smart City funds were allocated and what outcomes were actually achieved, public concern over Pune’s urban development continues to mount.
