In Kur village, Kolhapur, a woman allegedly performed a black magic ritual in a cemetery for divorce and revenge. Superstition fears rise, prompting public outrage and demands for action.
Kolhapur | July 29, 2025: An unsettling incident rooted in superstition has shocked Kolhapur district’s Bhudargad taluka, where a woman allegedly performed a ritualistic ‘Aghori puja’ at a village cemetery with the apparent intent to harm her husband and others.
The incident occurred in Kur village, where locals had gathered for a funeral. Amid the sombre proceedings, villagers noticed suspicious items placed at the cremation ground — including a doll, coconut, lemons, iron nails, gulal-kunku, and a note written on paper. Alarmed by the sight, many speculated it was an act of Karni Bhanamati, a type of black magic believed to cause personal and familial harm.
The note found at the scene has become the focus of concern. It contained a woman’s name, a request for divorce, and a list of people whose “fate should be destroyed,” according to villagers who read it. The presence of these items in a graveyard, along with the targeted language in the note, suggests a deliberate attempt to disturb the peace and harmony of a household, allegedly using superstitious means.
Locals believe the ritual was performed by a married woman with the aim of ending her marriage and harming other individuals. The discovery has created widespread fear and outrage in the village, with residents questioning how such acts could occur in a district known for its progressive roots and social reforms.
This isn’t an isolated case — such superstitious incidents have been on the rise across Kolhapur. Community leaders and activists are now demanding stricter action against such practices and greater awareness to prevent the spread of irrational beliefs.
The district administration is being urged to investigate this incident seriously and ensure that scientific temper and anti-superstition laws are upheld to stop such regressive activities from spreading further.
