Tensions Rise in NCP Sharad Pawar Group; Girish Mahajan Claims More Defections Likely Amid Political Unrest
NCP Sharad Pawar group MLAs express unrest over lack of power. BJP’s Girish Mahajan hints at possible defections. Mahajan mocks Sanjay Raut, says many opposition leaders see no future ahead.
June 14, 2025: After the split in Shiv Sena, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) too witnessed a major jolt when Ajit Pawar broke away to join the Mahayuti government, leaving Sharad Pawar to hold ground with the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA). However, the turmoil doesn’t seem to be over yet. Sources now reveal that several MLAs from the Sharad Pawar faction are increasingly frustrated over stalled developmental work in their constituencies, leading to dissatisfaction and restlessness.
According to reports, these MLAs feel deprived of power and development opportunities, and are openly expressing the need to “come to power” to serve their voters effectively.
Girish Mahajan Reacts: BJP Doors Open?
BJP leader and minister Girish Mahajan, reacting to these developments, said:
“I haven’t heard any such demand from their MLAs, but it is clear that many leaders from Sharad Pawar’s group and the Thackeray group are looking at us as a better future option.”
Mahajan went on to say that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and with Devendra Fadnavis handling state affairs, many leaders see real opportunities to deliver results, adding:
“They don’t see a future in their own parties.”
This statement further fuels speculation of future political realignments and defections, especially from the Sharad Pawar camp to the ruling coalition.
Local Body Elections Strategy
Sources also suggest that Sharad Pawar’s NCP is willing to form an alliance with any party except the BJP in the upcoming local body elections, signaling strong anti-BJP sentiment. However, Mahajan brushed this off saying:
“Where have we invited them? Let them fight where they are.”
Swipe at Sanjay Raut
Girish Mahajan also used the opportunity to sharply criticize Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut, saying:
“There’s nothing left to say about Sanjay Raut. People have stopped listening to him. Every morning he makes some new statement. He is not worth discussing.”
