Thane police busted a scam where two men illegally sold 12 tons of expired Flipkart goods meant for destruction. The seized stock, worth ₹30 lakh, was repackaged for market sale.
Thane | July 14, 2025: In a shocking revelation, Thane police have arrested two individuals involved in a major scam where expired food and essential goods meant for destruction were instead repackaged and sold in the market. The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Irfan Mohammad Munir Youdhari (41) of Sakinaka, Mumbai, and Mohammad Akram Mohammad Ismail Mekh (58) of Bhiwandi. Both have been remanded in police custody till July 17.
The duo, directors of a company named Eco Star Recycling and E-Waste Recycling, had been assigned by Flipkart to safely destroy expired and unusable goods. However, they rented warehouse number 6 in Arif Compound, located at Dahisar Naka in the Shil area, where they secretly hoarded large stocks of items meant to be scrapped.
The scam was exposed after a raid by Unit 1 of the Thane Crime Branch, led by Senior Police Inspector Sachin Gaikwad. Authorities found nearly 12 tons of goods, including food grains, pulses, flour, sugar, dry fruits, soaps, washing powders, and sanitary napkins — all sent by Flipkart for destruction — being repacked in unbranded plastic bags for illegal resale.
Police were stunned by the audacity of the accused, who were playing with public health and safety for profit. The total estimated market value of the seized items is around ₹30 lakh.
Further investigation is underway to determine how long this racket was running, and whether more people or companies are linked to the scam. The case has raised serious questions about monitoring mechanisms for companies contracted to handle sensitive disposal operations.
