In Thane’s Shahapur taluka, a woman poisoned her three daughters due to family troubles and was arrested after autopsy reports revealed foul play. The tragic incident has left the village in shock.
Thane | July 28, 2025: A heartbreaking and shocking incident has surfaced from Asanoli village in Shahapur taluka of Thane district, where a 27-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her three young daughters to death. The accused, Sandhya Sandeep Bere, reportedly took this extreme step due to ongoing family disputes and mental distress.
According to police, the incident took place on July 20, when Sandhya mixed pesticide in the dal rice (varan bhat) and fed it to her three daughters—aged 5, 8, and 10. Soon after eating, all three girls fell seriously ill, showing symptoms of vomiting and dizziness. They were rushed to a local hospital, and two of them were later shifted to a hospital in Mumbai due to worsening condition. Tragically, one girl died on July 24, the second on July 25, while the third, treated in Nashik, also passed away on July 24.
Initially, the Khinavali police had registered a case of accidental death. However, after receiving the autopsy reports on Saturday night confirming the presence of poison in the girls’ bodies, the case took a chilling turn. Sandhya was arrested around 2 a.m. following her confession during interrogation.
The police revealed that the woman had been mentally disturbed due to serious family issues, including her husband’s alcoholism. She had been living separately and struggling to care for her three children. Facing immense pressure and emotional breakdown, she reportedly decided to end the lives of her daughters.
The in-laws had suspected foul play, prompting further investigation. The case has deeply shaken the local community, with villagers questioning what drove a mother to such a horrifying act. Police have confirmed that further investigations are underway.
