RCB’s IPL victory celebrations turned tragic, with 11 dead in a Bengaluru stampede. In Pune, 30–40 fans face charges after causing traffic chaos and violating public order during unauthorized street festivities
Pune/Bengaluru, June 6 ,2025: What should have been a joyous moment for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)fans has quickly turned into a nightmare. Days after securing their first-ever IPL title in 18 years, celebrations across the country have been marred by tragedy and legal action.
A celebratory event at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 3 ended in disaster when an uncontrolled crowd surge led to a stampede, claiming the lives of 11 fans. The Bengaluru Police have since filed an FIR against the RCB franchise, theKarnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and DNA Entertainment, the event management company, citing serious lapses that contributed to the deadly incident.
Meanwhile, similar chaos unfolded in Pune. On the night of June 4, scores of RCB supporters gathered at Goodluck Chowk to celebrate the long-awaited title win. However, the festivities spiraled out of control, causing major traffic disruptions and public nuisance.
Acting swiftly, Deccan Police registered a case against 30 to 40 individuals who allegedly organized the street celebration without permission. The crowd reportedly burst high-decibel firecrackers in violation of noise regulations and blocked public roads, inconveniencing commuters.
Police stated that the charges include creating a public disturbance, violating traffic norms, and disrupting public peace. The accused have also been blamed for disregarding the 10 PM limit on firecracker use.
Similar unauthorized celebrations reportedly took place in several cities nationwide, with multiple cases of firecracker violations and road blockages being reported. Authorities have now begun initiating legal action against the offenders in these instances as well.
